In continuation of my despatch to Your Lordship No. 20 Treaty respecting the Hongkong murder case of this year, I have the honour to report that on the receipt of Your Lordship's despatch No. 303 of the 10th October, I addressed a further Note to the Foreign Board enquiring whether any report had yet been furnished by the Viceroy of Canton.
I received a reply to the effect that he had already requested Admiral Ho to keep under strict arrest the informer and the civil and military officers accused and to give instructions that they should be stringently examined and brought to trial within a limited time.
In view of Admiral Ho's complicity in the affair, I addressed a Note to the Foreign Board on receipt of the above, in which I referred them to my Note of
